    "THE Green Machine" worklog

    Well after a really long and fruitless search ... Finally a decent chassis to work with

    many thanks to Silex for going above and beyond.

    "1996 Escort LX Wagon w/197k kms on the ODO , power windows , locks , PS ( A/C deleted ) uses 91 oct fuel or higher

    Escort GT 1.8L with REBUILT 5spd / phantom grip lsd kit ( less than 400 km on it currently )
    Mazda BP26 exh manifold
    Mazda BP26 Turbo ( VJ20 )
    Custom charge pipe w/FMIC
    DSM BoV
    RX7 Vaf ( tuned )
    ACT stg 3 6 puck clutch ( sprung )
    Mazda mx6 GT injectors
    Cut modded , port matched intake manifold
    Short throw shifter
    New stabilizer bar assy.
    Solid Motor mounts ( all but pass side engine mount )
    Bronzoil shifter bushings
    4 Brad NEW KYB GR-2's with Canuk motorsport springs
    Escort GT front bumper ( hides the FMIC )
    Escort GT side skirts
    Escort GT grill
    MX6 Cat-back exhaust w/Bosal bro-speed muffer with modded OEM looking tip ( not loud or ricey )
    Rust proofed engine bay
    NEW entire front rad support last spring ( old one was damaged by previous owner )
    Black MX3 GS front an rear seats
    Black protege , MX3 consoles
    Front an rear strut braces
    NEW driver side CV shaft
    stock EGT N/A Ecu

    it's a little rough, and needs some refining ( no reflection on the PO)

    observations on the way home (55 km 90% highway)
    bothersome exhaust rattle from the rear end
    ride is tight and not too bad
    boggy/ stutters on mild accell in 5th @ 3k rpm
    steering wheel/column too high for the seats
    pass side headlight out<<<<<<<<<<<< fixed just loose connector
    windshield
    wire in proper cooling fan control
    little rough shifting into 5th
    shift linkage needs work just 3rd link?
    speedo cable binding / floating



    to do list :
    1. swap in WB 02
    2. see what can be done with the exhaust rattle. FIXED just had to clearance the tip downwards a bit
    3. wire in relay + temp sensor for cooling fan
    4. fix speedo cable
    5. inspect shift linkage
    6. rear disc swap . ebrake cable issue or will pro cables fit
    7. tune for emissions testing <<< this should be fun









    someone recently asked me why i would call it "the green machine"
    2 reasons :
    1. it's freaky green
    2. with the mx3 seats and the non-tilt unmodded steering the seating position is the same as

                  Nice! I love Calypso Escorts, especially the 5dr hatchbacks, and wagons! I also like the stance on the Canuks, with the 16" NB wheels it works really well.

                    i had pretty much decided to pick the car up unseen simply because i was desperate for a decent shell ( which this definitely is )
                    but Silex had a pretty decent setup for me when he showed up with the car + spare parts

                      glad you finally found a clean chassis man! the wagon is sharp as hell, what fmic kit do you have? universal? or from a CP part out of sorts? lol

                      also you can mount a gauge in the cluster plastics above the 2 center vents, iirc the other side may have enough room to mount another one as well...then there's the steering column cover lol, how many gauges do you have?

                      plan on swapping in the GTX ECU also? I'm guessing you need it to pass emissions, and I flew threw with my Protege with the GTX ECU and n/a BP VAF, ran so clean even with the OEM cat converter on it (220k miles lol)

                        not so crazy on the motor in the car atm .. pulling out the compression tester
