I vote to try a different distributor. How old is the O2 sensor in that thing?

This is what's got me thrown off. When I first cranked it, everything was fine. Went to bed and it wouldn't crank the next morning. That's why I don't think it's the distributor or anything like that. I've gotta get some free time and I'm going to try the bp10 ecu and resetting the base timing with it and seeing what happens. I just need some free time to try all this[emoji21]

I have been researching the problem of your car I have not had much luck but tomorrow I will consult a friend that is mechanical and has an old mercedes benz turbo engine with 2jz to see that tells me about your problem

I measured the resistance of the fuel pump /opening circuit relay. The resistances don't match the FSM. The starting coil is shorted. It's been a while since I looked at the wiring diagram. Maybe this is affecting fuel delivery during starting?

the relay of the fuel pump of my car not to contact the circuit when I wanted to start my engine crank turned out to be that he had little resistance and was full of rust

Went to the junkyard Sunday. There was one protege (RIP) and an mx3. I got a fuel relay, driver's side door lamp lens, rear Mazda mud flaps (front were in horrible shape), and valve cover (why not).

Tonight I finished replacing the water pump and timing belt (getting a jump on that 60k mile maintenance!). I don't remember the water pump being such a pain. It probably didn't help that I dropped one of the inlet bolts behind the a/c compressor. Had to take it off.

Hopefully tomorrow she'll at least be back together to try the relay and a few other things I need to try.
