I'm getting so tempted to sell the Rewinds over the winter and pick up a budget version of what I'm rocking on the 240- Enkei Apache IIs (15x7 +38) and Drag DR20s (15x7 +40). yeah, fakes, but something tells me finding MKIIs and 03s in the sizes I want for reasonable money (my real ones were super cheap because they're not in the sizes drift nerds want) would be next to impossible.

I registered the protege on friday, fixed the tranny leak, washed, clayed and waxed it today.

Swapped to my MX3 Control arms with Ryan's spherical bushings. I missed these. Also, Changed my alignment specs, about 3* negative camber on all 4 corners, reset toe to zero, and got my front caster to 6* between the LCA bushings and the camber plates, which I rotated 90* into caster plates. (I still intend to get Ksport Camber/Caster plates at some point)

Drives so well on this setup. Self-centers on Que. Tracks super straight, turn-in is very responsive. I hope to bomb my mountain a few more times this season. Hopefully the weather holds, there was already snow up there the other day. I should charge the Go-Pro and get video...

You can get that much camber out of just the clevis adjustments alone? Dang, I might have to try that in the spring.

          ===

Repairs I will never do again: replace ****ty worn rack bushings with ES jams. **** this **** forever. Took almost three ****ing hours because the driver's side bushing (the "easy one") did not want to seat properly and it took brute force to get the ****ing bracket to where I could start to thread the nuts back on.

About to go do the trans mounts, after which I will probably shoot myself in the face because of that stupid ****ing bolt that goes in the wrong way on the rear mount.

I was able to with the mx3 arms and rx7 ball joints. Without them, probably not. May have something to do with the spindles too.

I dont remember exactly what my camber is but its milder than yours is and I know its not -3. I am also only using the camber plate to get my camber and using the trick Jim mentioned before about pulling the knuckle all the way out and and adjusting the plate all the way in.

Remind me again Cody, are you using the MX3 steering rack or are the OE rack/rods long enough for the mx3 control arm/rx7 ball joint combo?

what's the advantage to pulling the knuckle out and adjusting the plates in?

all four motor/trans mounts are now done with ES inserts, car is back together and on the ground. wooooooo

It changes your scrub radius. If I am visualizing correctly it will make it more negative.

Positive and negative scrub radii have benefits in different types of suspension. A MacPherson strut assembly typically performs well with a lot of SAI and caster, a system negative scrub works well in. Because both SAI and caster increase the amount of camber on the outside wheel when steering, the fulcrum pivot point is at a point that has more leverage, requiring less steering effort. Negative scrub also helps reduce torque steer in front wheel drive cars. Positive scrub radius works well with suspensions that use dual control arms that use less caster and SAI to optimize geometry.

I'm on an escort rack still. The probe hubs offset the tierod however, such that when I was ball joints only, I didn't really have to extend the outer tie-rods, I adjusted camber until toe was near zero, then fine tuned on the tierod, camber was maybe 1.5* when toe was zero on that setup. So I knew I could do the lca's too since I had only lightly adjusted the tie-rods (less than 1/2 turn).

Took the race car apart on saturday to figure out what all needs to be replaced after hitting the wall last time I raced. Luckily the wheel and suspension took the entire hit, and the frame is still straight. After making a list of what is bent, I called autozone and ordered $150 worth of parts, including a passenger side control arm, ball joint, inner tie rod, and axle assembly. Racing is expensive....

Then i found that my air filter got crushed when I hit something else and pushed in the left side fender/body area. SOOOO glad I had a decent air filter that was flexible, and actually collapsed, and didn't just break open and let unfiltered air in. Otherwise, my motor would have been junk. Last, but not least, I attempted to clean the clay off the underside of the car. Got about 2 buckets of it. And there's still tons of the stuff left on the car that won't come off by just pounding on it. I'd say I got about half of the stuff off the car.... Weighed at least 50 lbs per bucket dry. I can't imagine how much the stuff weighed when it was wet. Must have really slowed me down. Click image for larger version

Gad, how embarrasing. We've been fighting a boost control problem on the rallycar since the new ECU install. So we blamed the ECU. But that wasn't it. Neither were any of the other usual suspects. Finally got a clue when in frustration I disconnected the WG from the signal hose and dammit we STILL aren't making more'n 19psi, and we STILL don't have the slightest leak in the intake tract! Oooohhhhhhh.... let's take a look at the restrictor. Which has managed to migrate a bit and is now crooked in front of the coldside. It is restricting so very well, positioned like that, that we don't neeeeed no steeenkin wastegate.

Um, re-doing how we mount the sodastraw now...

huh, interesting. I wonder if that would be worth trying on my car.

so for the record, using Ferdi's subframe bushings with ES inserts on a Zetec makes everything awful. Gotta see if I can order stock ones.
