Replaced the auto-parts store axle seal with a mazda one. Damn thing went in stupid easy compared to the non-oem one.

The neutral switch was leaking too so I threw a new o-ring on that jerk-ass, you really need a 24mm crows foot for that POS.

Flushed my a/c compressor out with fresh pag oil, got a very minimal amount of junk from it. Mostly just old green leak detector goop infused oil. Vacuumed down the system and its still holding thirty after an hour. Don't have enough r134a to fill the entire system (28 oz shiiiiii) today unfortunately. Hoping I don't break a line when I replace the drier.

Oh rounded off the O2 sensor too, so that's not getting replaced till I pull that section of the exhaust.

should probably change (or at least check) my transmission fluid since it's making spaceship noises.

**** using Synchromesh like the ZX2 dudes recommend though. if Walmart ATF is good enough for the wagon, it's good enough for this.

changed transmission fluid. the quart and a half or so that was left in the transmission was nearly black.

thermostat I got from the Ford dealership wasn't even close to what I needed. had to get one from Advance. installed, bled cooling system. have heat for 10 seconds and then it cools off. temp gauge is rock solid at just under the middle, no fluctuations like before. upper rad hose is hot, radiator is hot, thermostat seems to be working properly. did not think to check heater core lines, possibly because I am an idiot. if I turn the temp control to cold and then back to hot, it gets cold and does not come back.

guessing the heater core is blocked, which sucks, since it isn't even that old... hopefully I can just flush it or something.

Couldn't remove the a/c drier from the car. It was just not happening and was apparent I was going to snap a line if I continued. Vac was 28" after 24 hours so I have a very small leak or maybe even not considering it could drop that much just by hooking up the gauge set. Small enough cause for concern that I felt comfortable throwing $30 worth of r134a in the car.

A/c was super cold and car doesn't feel like it dying anymore while the a/c is engaged at idle as well. Pressure reading ended up around 60psi low 190psi high so on the lower side of the acceptable spectrum. I could probably add another can of refrigerant because I did manage to piss out about 1/3 a can due to ineptitude. Still don't think I'll touch anything hvac related until something breaks. My guess being the blower motor in about 4 months as setting 4 blows about what use to be setting 2.

Dropped about $300 total I guess on tools and supplies to get the rubbish working again. Which is money well spent as that is close to what i was quoted for a inspec, vac and fill here. Also I've already made $50 filling someone else's a/c so if I put in effort I'd probably break even quickly.

Oh I also figure out why my grill is loose, the mounting squares on the car have become mounting rectangles and too large for the grill clips. Zip-ties fix everything.

could it be the door system in the dash acting up at all? Weird that " if I turn the temp control to cold and then back to hot, it gets cold and does not come back." happens

Right? I was wondering about that, given that it's all vacuum-controlled bull****.

Apparently there's a control by the gas pedal that people always kick loose, but I feel like if that were the issue, turning the knob would feel way different. Something else to check out when I get a chance, though.

one heater hose hot, one cold.

I wonder what the odds are that I could backflush this ****ing thing without ruining it.

Im guessing you bought an auto-parts store heater core(spectra probably)? I bought one too when the one in the BHA pissed itself and it was garbage. You might want to pony up to an OEM one.

I didn't buy ****, the PO had it replaced a little while after she got it so I have no idea what's in it.

The only things pressingly bothersome about the car now is the headliner and terminal sun roof cancer.
It's going to hit 250k miles in much better shape than I would expect for living out here.

Still need a non-broken coolant reservoir cap too, then my OCD about absurd things will be sated.

Nothing.... Was going to drive it to school, but when I went to get in it, I noticed the left rear tire was VERY soft. I'd say it was at 5 psi from how it felt. (it was much softer than 10-15 psi, which I know quite well because I run that in my race car's left rear. ) Must have run over something sharp on my way home yesterday. While I coulda just aired it up and hoped it held for 8 hours, I didn't feel like risking it going flat on me, and I drove my mom's taurus to school instead. Which made me remember how much I hate the 4th gen taurus. Very uncomfortable seats, and lots of blind spots. Plus it's so underpowered, even with the 3.0 dohc duratec... I can't wait to fix my zx2's tire tommorow so that I can drive it again.
