Oh my CEL came on too. I don't think that's ever happened save the one time i had a plug come off from something. Haven't checked the code yet but I assume its along the lines of "code holy ****:no ****ing speed input, good luck driving"

Found out I get to change another ball joint. Does everybody wear out ball joints every year or two, or is it just me?

What ball joints are you using? I run the Moog ones that seem to last just fine.

Nope. I think one of mine is still original actually, maybe both. 270K miles

Maybe its the climate difference since we have little to no rain here and everything is dry.

I've been using Moog for the last few years. Maybe it's what I drive on or how I drive on it. It's been a common wear item for me on all my BGs.

I usually get 2-3 years on ball joints on my fwd cars. I factored lowered stiffer suspension, driving like an ass, moon sized craters on the highway, and the lack of my motivation to re-grease them is all factors leading to their short life. I normally just do tie rods and ball joints at the same time and get an alignment.

I'm pretty sure the manual ECU doesn't know or care how fast the car is moving. The automatic one needs to know when and how to shift, therefore it has a VSS and could do strange things without it.

My ball joint is not the problem this time. I put the new one in and it wobbled as much as the old one did. The knuckle is worn away. I will try slotting the pinch-bolt holes and maybe cutting more material away from the slot in the side, then grind the bore smooth and squeeze it down harder. I hope that works.

The frustrating part is that I have a spare set of front knuckles, but when I went to get them I only found the right side, and of course I need the left. Also, my front left caliper is fully extended and leaking. The inner pad is down to the back plate while the outer one has about 1/4" material remaining. So I figure I might as well get my spare front calipers out so I can swap them out, but they're missing too. I found my rear set and some brackets for the front, but that just isn't helpful right now.

So much for order. I put a lot of effort into organizing and tracking my parts so I can find what I need when I need it. Today I am more than a little upset that it was all for nothing.

                              Comments/suggestions are always welcome.

You will probably just snap the knuckle if you try to squeeze it harder, they don't take kindly to flexing a lot. Best bet is to put a split sleeve in it, or replace it.
