Even though I posted on the 2nd gen already, I didn't actually introduce myself. My name is Jorge. I've been a member for a good while now with a 1st gen. I just bought a troubled 95 LX. I knew it was that way when I bought it. It was only $300 with no body problems. I can't beat the price even if it never works but I think it will. It's got a problem that a couple of you know of on the other thread but I will not discuss it here. I will get to work on it for the first time on Monday or Tuesday--my days off. I owned a 1st gen and have it almost completely parted out. I still have the engine and don't want to do the swap. I don't want to work that hard since I know I can't just drop it in w/o other mods to the tranny or wiring or Lord knows how many other things. I actually had two. Both were 94 DX's and were SUPER reliable. They were both crashed. Both also suffered the rough idle problem and I'm sad to hear the 2nd gen suffers that too. I like the looks of this 2nd gen a lot. I agree the lines are still very modern looking. If I can fix this gen and it isn't one of the ones with the rough idle, it will also end up with a new paint job.

2nd Gen? The Forgotten Generation?

Well the second gen was definately the red headed step child of the mazda family for sure. The biggest factor is just that the 2nd gen was designed when america hit the "i need good gas milage" phase. In the mid 90s how many cars were there pushing over 150hp? Not many.....The 2nd gens were produced cheap to suit consumer demand and i hate to say it but it shows....I have taken wonderful care of my 2nd gen, but still mine is really just a big old piece of ****. There are more and more problems with it every day. I cant take it any longer...But to be honest i dont think any proteges have it any better.... they are daily drivers and thats it....they never will be a true sports car...Its a damn shame but its true...Proteges are like a really pretty girl with out any tits and no ass. Youll always look at one and same "Damn, She COULD HAVE BEEN so great."sigpic

Hi.
My name is Charles, and I am from Montreal, Quebec, Canada... and I am a proud owner of a 1997 Pro LX Touring Edition (the equivalent of the US ES model). Powered by a BP, 5 speed manual, all power, only thing missing is a sunroof...
I must say that when my father first found the car for me, I was a bit sad... a protegé, grandma looking years... bleh! My bestfriend's mom had a SE version, and I had always hated it. Then I got mine, at a reasonable price, with low millage. Best of all, I am the second owner, with all the invoices.
Mine is everglade mica, lowered 1.6 (Apex with KYB GR2 shocks), and I have 15inch 10 spoke ASA mags with 195-50-15 tires.
I love this car. It's great downtown, it's a blast on the highway, nobody seems to notice the car (great for cops...) and it looks nicer droppped than normal. Just can't wait to see the look with the original 14 inchers with hubs this winter... should be nice... but for winter, who cares about looks when it snows at least a foot a week here in Quebec...
Great underestamated Mazda... Especially in Quebec, where only VW, Honda, Acura, Cavalier and Neon seem to be the only modded cars... thumbs up to uniquenous!

98lx, and soon
I got my 98 lx back in 2000/01, with 67,000 miles, and since double that, its been to florida and back to san diego, and to texas and back 3 times. I love my pro, just hate the 1.5 and no mods, so I found a 96 es, for 300, dumb blonde ran into a trash can and five minutes later a yukon, motors fine, and interiors great, so its all mine, now I just gotta take my front and put it on her's, along with my seats. after that my poor 98 is going to the yards.proud owner of a 13lb 5 ounce porker baby boy. no longer the proud owner of the car below, it now belongs to 95pro.

that was the original intention, and I'm going to check out the frame before I decide anything of course. But what I saw, and the story told, I'm not incredibly worried about the frame being damaged.proud owner of a 13lb 5 ounce porker baby boy. no longer the proud owner of the car below, it now belongs to 95pro.

Have a pick and let me see you put those on your car since you're crying about kits not being available.
