What is so important about an accurate speedo?
Speedos are off by 1-5kmph stock, depending on the model of car.

Well depending on the wheel size you could be speeding and not even know it, hence the possibility of gettting a ticket. Also over all diameter can change your gearing some.

Just put 17's and 40r 205's on my z5 and want to know if I'll eliminate the big gap between the wheel well and the tire with a 2.0" drop or will anyone with oem struts and 17's let me know if they've had success doing this, if not how far can I go? Thanks

i have a 2.25in drop on stock struts, and i did have 16x50x205 so it should be similar to your 17x40x205 setup...

i did fender rub over large dips in the road, but i should have rolled the fenders. in the rear i only had 1 finger for a gap

Thank you Clappy, I appreciate the advice and someone who finally speaks my language. Yes the configurations seem to be the same in regards to size, I think I'll go with the 2.0" drop and find myself wondering if more is better because the investment seems to be very low to begin experimenting whether or not I Like how it looks and rides. Here is a link to the route I'm thinking of going

Can someone please explain the terminology "roll the fenders"

in all honesty. riding on stock struts with my 2.25 drop, with stock 14's is actually a nice ride! i love it.. i don't scrape, but i def. need to unload the winter tires..

Rolling the fender is when you fold up, or in some xtreme cases cut the inside of your fenders.. if you feel along your rear fenders, you'll feel that the bottom of your fender actually is flat and is almost an half inch/inch wide. if you roll them, then theres less likely that you'll scrape the walls of your tires...

                  btw,
with the correct offset, you don't need to roll the fenders.

Springs on their way, if anyone has any advice besides renting a spring compressor, please let me know!! You can find it on ebay!!! LOL I"m so cheap............. I want to do it right but can't afford spending 10g's on a 1200 dollar car. 2" drop I think is best, have spoke with many that say this'll be best so if your thinking of dropping it with 17's stay tuned

The shorter springs go in the front.

i can never remember.. 38 or 42... plus i think its only safe to have a 7in wide tire.. going over can cause rubbing too...

usually if you have 17x7 rims, offset should be at +40.

i have 16x7 w/ +36 offset, no probs when slammed, could tuck them with no rubbing.

and the 15x7 i have, i don't know the offset of them, i forgot.

You don't need to worry about rubbing, i have 205 mm (8") tire, 16" rim +38mm offset and a 1.5" drop no rubbing since 1 year so i think it's ok
