      Thank you, sir.

I'm considering making an install video for this part. The only problem, I won't be installing it until I get a new clutch that'll hold.

Anyone know what to torque the ring gear bolts to? Do the bolts need Loc-tite? Can the torque be done in one step? I imagine it is torqued down in the standard criss-cross pattern.

you should torque them in a couple steps up to 75 ft lbs. use a criss cross pattern like you said. use blue loctite, it has plenty of holding strength for this.
(you can use red if you really want to, but you will hate yourself for it if you ever need to remove the ring gear.)

i found the best way to hold the diff was to use a couple blocks of soft pine in a large bench vice. the ring gear teeth dig into the wood and keep it from turning without damaging anything.

Drilling the rivets off takes some time. Use a drill press if you're doing it yourself, and I highly recommend an air hammer to make things easier once they're almost drilled out.

Next up, new synchros and bearings for the trans, new clutch, rear main oil seal.

looks good! how big of a drill press like a smaller 300 buck one or are you talking a big boy one?

The one I used was a floor standing unit. However anything that is powerful enough, and large enough to accommodate larger size drill bits and large/stable enough to secure the diff to for drilling will work fine.

I started with a 3/16" bit for pilot holes:

Next a 1/2" bit and finally about a 3/4" bit, don't remember the exact size but here's a picture to give you an idea:

Chiseled the rest of the way off. And unless you get every rivet dead center you'll have little bits of rivet still hanging on the bevel of the holes in the ring gear: Get them as close as you can without damaging the ring gear.

After that, using an air gun or hammer and punch, knock the rivets out the rest of the way.

Use a bit of oil on the drill bits, helps out a lot, and wear rubber gloves. There will be lots of very sharp shavings that love to imbed in and slice your skin up.

If all this seems just a bit over your head, you're unsure, or lack proper equipment pay somebody to do it for you. It's a lot better than ****ing up your ring gear.
