the MSP getting the speedo signal from the ABS system is precisely the reason why the MSP lsd is not machined to fit a speedo gear

Using a vice, put a piece of wood on either side of the ring gear, tighten the vice, and torque away.

The teeth will dig into the wood and hold it very steady. Re-adjust as needed to get them all torqued evenly in a criss-cross pattern.

BTW, I have autocrossed on the diff. And it was wonderful.

        More on it later.

I was checking the movement of the two shafts as something was not quite right when I started putting it back together. One of the syncros became stuck in a position that made the shaft sit higher then it should have.

zx2 what type of treatment did you have done to the gears and who did it?

                    Comment

I had it done by a guy named Steve Lockett in Pennsylvania. A guy on the ZX2 boards was shredding 3rd gears nearly ever time he got on the car (352whp) and he had his gears treated by this guy and still the gears look perfect nearly a year later.

They were tested to 750whp on Civic gears.

                      It was $200.

a quick google search yielded this:

Steve Lockett has had a great deal of success with his modified input shafts. He runs a lockup converter and lockup shaft which has been highly polished to remove all stress risers. He is pushing 605HP on a 2.4 motor and so far, the shaft has been holding for a year and a half. After the polishing, it is heat treated, in a conventional oven.... 1/2 hour at 400^, 1/2 more at 500^, 1 hour at 600^, turn the oven off and let it cool down slowly. Don't open the oven door.
i kind of doubt that there is more than one Steve Lockett that heat treats transmission parts...

I had Steve heat treat all the gears in my previous transmission too, but I still stripped the ring/pinion gears. So, maybe it helped as everyone else usually strips 3rd. Plus, the root cause of my failure might have been the bellhousing. In my current trans I put in billet 3rd/4th and had the remaining gears shot-peened instead along with using a reinforced Kia bellhousing.

Damn, that sucks to hear. How much power are you running? I really hope these gears hold up.

My car makes ~340whp/320wtq, but at the time it broke, I was running low boost and probably only around 250whp.

Yeah, but like I said, I think the case is the next weak link. If the case cracks/flexes, it doesn't matter how strong your gears are...
