The LP for the subs only has I think 3 different options off 60 80 125? I don't remember exactly. The full range has a bunch of different EQ settings just for the amp. It's nice to be able to turn off the subs sometimes without getting back to the amp or wiring in a switch.

good if you are happy with the subs you have, regardless of brand and whatever anyone tells you, there is not need to upgrade me on the other hand, i'm never totally satisfied. even if a sub performs 10 times better than i expected, i still try to find something better but changing out your fronts to components and amp them you will notice a nice difference.

jnorion, moving tweets up to the dash is very tricky. positioning them in the farthest corners of the dash would be great for imaging, since they are far away from your ears, so the path length difference is small, and they are higher, so the sound stage isn't brought down towards the floor. BUT mounting them there usually causes nasty reflections off the dash and windshield, destroying your front imaging. where in your door are they mounted?

Both the tweets and the mids are in the stock door pocket... the guy at the shop cut a custom wood mount to fit them.

i'd leave it just like that that keeps the mid-range and tweet nice and close.

Does it sound better that way? I was looking to put them basically in the dash right above the outside vents.

it might be louder if you move them up to the dash, but they won't sound as good

I've got the 3 pairs of speakers running off of the pioneer amp. It would just be putting in components since they are already amped.
Is this really bad for my amp? It's been running 4 speakers since July and 6 since August or so. I haven't had any problems yet. The only way to run the speakers in the rear door is off of an amp unless I tap into either the front or rear stock wiring.
Out of the subs I've heard in friends cars/trucks I think mine definately sounds the best by far. From best to worst they are...

                    so true

speaking of subs, i might be getting a treo CSX 18" sub with dual 1.5 ohm VC's it was run off of 2 RF 1501bd's for burps only, which is well under the limits of that beast

MazdaMania, i would run just your front speakers off your amp, and the other 2 sets off the HU. that will be the best way to get the most sound from a set of components up front. all those rear speakers will draw away from your front sound stage. course i wouldn't bother to run any power to the speakers in the rear door or the rear deck. just run one set, if you need to have some rear fill.

Mazdamaina- I have got to agree with Blue on this- focus down to the front on the higher frequencies, and then let the bass out of the others, but keep in mind unless you use an active crossover of sometype, you will have a fight going between the speakers on frequencies.
The idea of using all of the varied locations would be cool though. I have throught about using all of those holes for a dolby surround system sometime.
In competition sound sytems, one wants a sound field across the front of the car just like you are setting in a seat at a concert listening to the sound, distinct left, right, and center. The distinct frequencies are the mid to high level ones. Low frequencies however are a omnidirectional source, if done right they don't have a sense of left, right, back or front, rather they just surround you.
Hence the suggestion on where to focus the frequencies. You can also tune mid and high frequencies to lift the soundfeild, in the case of the protege, from low on the doors to dash height. One advantage to the location of Protege front speakers is that they can be tuned pretty will in my experence. The location is not so direct as to overpower and make the positions a direct and hard left, right and center.
Jnorion, that is why you actually want to keep the drivers together, and in thier current location. With a good equalizer you will actually be able to get a better sound stage than you could moving them to the dash itself. The amount of diffusion you get in the stock location actually works in your favor when tuning the frontstage.
By the way- where in the high point area are you? I was born and raised in Chapel Hill, and spent many years in the Fayetteville area. I really miss the beauty of North Carolina!

Those are just subs of friends of mine. I've heard more than those at shows and even more on the shelf. Though come to think of it...I'm not sure if I've heard an ED sub or not.
The speakers in the rear doors were mainly a "I've got something you don't have" kinda thing. The highs don't really come through the doors too well since I don't have a grill or anything back there.
I guess I'm thinking my front sound stage sucks so I want something better. I can only hear the extreme highs when I lean forward so my ears are inline with the front speakers. Mainly the reason for wanting tweeters. So I don't have to move to hear what I wanna hear.
Will putting the Infinity's in the front doors give me what I want? They've got the swiveling tweeter. Will this angle the highs in the direction I want(towards my ears)?

dacinokc...I go to High Point University. So I live off 85 on College Dr. I live in Durham though and grew up there. Only been through Fayetteville when headed down to the beach a couple times a summer.

try playing around with what you've got. it might save you quite a bit of money in the long run or if you've got a friend that wants to replace his speakers, and needs the same size as you've got, sell yours to help pay for some components once i changed out my front 3 ways to components i vowed never to go back

I'm not sure how this works. Any suggestions, or is that something best done just playing around until it sounds right?

in kick panels with the 5.25" mid-range driver alpine type R's the tweeters were kinda bright, so i've got them stepped down 3 db.

jnorion, basically leave your components where they are at if you want better front sound stage you can get an equalizer to adjust things. depending how much control you want to have over things will determine what type of EQ to get. if you are happy with things as they are now, i wouldn't bother. it's all about what you like in your car
