The v6 uses an electric speedo.... Since I am doing the v6 to I4, I just gankem an RS cluster (b6 Mx-3) since it uses a cable like the protege.....
for going in reverse, your either going to have to make an adapter for the electric sensor to accept the cable, or find another way... I cant tell you for sure.... hit up jaydog on the mx-3 forum, he knows his stuff over there and should be able to help ya figure something out.
oh and I have a VAF off of my k8 (same as the KLZE one I have read )
hit me up if ya want it.

the following is what i posted over on the mx-3 board:
hello all! ive been searching around here for awhile now and posted a couple things to get some answers i couldnt find answered. so far you guys have been a real big help.
now heres my situation:
i have a 1991 ford escort GT 5-speed. im looking to put the ford probe GT 2.5 KLDE engine and tranny into my car.
now here is the list of parts that i think i would need. since the MX-3 is a BG chasis car just like the escort gt's im hoping you guys who do the B6e to klde/klze swap can help me out in 3 ways:
#1 let me know if im missing any parts at all
#2 let me know if you know of a better price for the parts i list
#3 let me know if there is anything that i should watch out for while doing this swap.
ok heres my parts list and prices:
Engine: $150
MX-3 mototr mounts/Wiring harness:$75
2 probe gt axles: $50
Timing belt and pullies: $80
MX-3 Flywheel: free
Spark plugs: $10
Plug wires: $80
Distributor: $100
Tranny: $100-$400
OE style Clutch: $100
ECU: $45
im guessing i'll have to get a custom exhaust setup too so: $110
a couple other questions i have:
can i use my stock radiator/starter?
how would i go about getting the speedo to work? the escorts/proteges/mx-3s used a cable driven speedo and from what i've heard, all the V6 cars used a electronic speedo. does anyone know if there is a cheap fix to this problem? if not then i could just opt for a V6 mx-3 dashboard...
thanks for all the help so far guys!
i still havent gotten an answer on the speedo thingy...
im mostly askinng JITB37 since he said he has done this swap before...1997 U-13 Nissan Altima

you can use th stock radiator, but u will have to get soem new hoses (i think) , i havent done the swap into a escort/protege before, so im not 100%, ive done it in many 4cyl mx3's. But I threw away that crossmember, or i cant find it for some eason. i dont know what happen to it, but i still have the linkage. And im gonna pick up the other KLDE today, that needs a new head. So ill have another motor to part out....

#1 by engine I assume you mean your getting the MAF and all of the other sensors and crap with it, b/c I didnt see them listed...
#2 Price is all about what is available locally.... you have some pretty cheap prices there....
#3 Good luck!
couple of questions:
can i use my stock radiator/starter?
Stock radiator yes, but different hoses are needed. (I am going to use the v6 radiator since it has dual fans and I like the way it site in the radiator support instead of behind it.)
Starter is different from what I have been told on the MX-3.com board.
how would i go about getting the speedo to work? the escorts/proteges/mx-3s used a cable driven speedo...
the v6 cluster in place of your BG one might work, or seeing if you can swap the guts between the speedos. The plugs are the same, and since you have the wiring harness listed on there you could probably get it wired up, no problem.
The only other option I see possibly working is to try pulling the speedo sensor from the v6 tranny and pulling the geared one from an LX/EGT tranny and seeing if there is a way to hybrid the 2. try putting the gears from the v6 electric sensor on the BG geared one and then run the cable to your existing cluster.
Good Luck!

ok just to clear things up a bit...JITB37, you said you've done this swap a couple times into 4 cyl mx3s.
now let me get this strait... i can plug the V6 MX3 wiring harness directly into a FOrd probe GT ECU? no splicing and cutting up wires? and as for the axles, I've heard that the probe/mx6 ones will not fit, as they are a little longer. but if i get the mx3 gs ones then i will be good to go...just for reinforcment is this correct?
and as for the elusive fuse box question, does anyone on this planet know the answer? or is this going to be a trial and error thing? lol1997 U-13 Nissan Altima
