i havent done the KL personaly but a was talking to a guy that has done it and he said its realy simple but i guess you need to know the differance between a hammer and a wrench..hahahahah ......i dont know for sure but maybe "thegreatelbobo"would the KL basicaly just bolts in right? this is wht ive been told in the past
yea, from the way your 'how-to' went jitb, and from our mild discussion afterwards i think this swap sounds like fun! i'm not in any hurry to gather parts and crap, just because all my work will be outside, and well....its snowing! haha so for right now im just keeping my eyes peeled over @ mx-3.com for misc parts like the harness and stuff locally.
im just really excitted to do this swap, you have no idea! haha, i have a full write up/check list of what i need and what i need to do, and what needs replacing.
JACK
oh and jitb, you're starting to work on the protege again, right?
hey sounds good to me Mike, any ideas what it might be though? because somethings are easily aquired around my house, there's just certain things i dont feel like getting from the wreckers, mainly the wiring harness lol.
haha, ok, how about i leave the harness until last? sound good?
but yea, i wont be buying for about 2 weeks yet put my 2 weeks into my job so i can start another one right after, make 5$ an hour more but then i have to wait for that pay check, and yada yada yada. hah
yep, i got the new harness in and now ijust need to re do the starter wire connector that burned up, and illbe all set. goin the pullapart and get what i need this saturday. man ive gotten all my harness's form the pullapart, they ojly charge 13$ for them, ubetter go get one, u will be suprised how easy it is to get it out, and put it in. it took me about 45 minutes to put the harness in the pro, i thought it wopuld be a pain, but it wasnt at all.
U dont get the harness section that goes to the a/c , alternator etc. Just get the section that goes from the ECU runs along the firewall, and connects to the Fuse box, and it also has the diagnosis. The rest should still be attached to the motor.
i dint pull the motor, thers only 3 or 4 connections inthe back of the motor, and only 1 of thejm is kind of hard, the rest are on the top of the mootor, and on the sides, that was my first tim pulling o a harness form that motor and it was pretty easy honestly. yep im using a 94 pgt motor/94 626 v6 ecu/ KL maf.. U can use wahtever ecu K8 - kl with whatever k motor, as long as u have the ecu to match it. But They are different..
yea, i know where most of the plugs are, i've helped with 2 K8 replacements...well one i practically did by myself, lol.
anyways, depending what my pay is, which its going to be CRAP i'd imagine, i'm going to go early next week to pull out a harness and other stuff that i can hide in the mess or wires like the brake booster hose, and i'll compare speedo cables @ the tranny side (Because i remember mike saying the throttle cables are the same length).
and i know of an mx3 without a motor at a friend of the family's yard, but i know the harness is cut up because i helped cut it up we were in a hurry to pull the motor and some plugs wouldnt come loose. but all i think it has that i need is the crossmember...i think there's a shiftlinkage in the back of the car all taken apart...hmm...ecu and maf too...wow i ramble on
Throttle cables are NOT same length. However, I used stock BP 4-cyl throttle cable. It fit the way I set it up without binding and looked stock, so I went with it.

I got the V6 cable to work with the BP... took some creativity though as they are different.
