What?! So you're saying that fuel is getting dumped into the cylinder that does have the spark to cool it down?! That makes no sense, and why would your injector be squirting into the cylinder that has no spark anyways... not right and a waste of fuel.

Sounds like you're quoting from two different paragraphs on your research... or please elabourate on your statement.

The reason why the idle is lumpy when using a MS is that it doesn't know when to properly start the firing like a stock computer which uses the second wheel in the distributor as a reference. Lex could better explain that...

there is very little lex can explain to me if your car is idling lumpy wired for
        stock 1-3, 2-4

Than your car is tuned wrong.

ive asked for a msq of any one who is having problems with idle and still havnt seen one

Well I guess we'll see what happens. I'm going to wire them in 1-4 and 2-3.

I will be working on it to day so I'll have some updates tonight. Sorry for the delay, I've be fighting a raging Halo 3 addition.

jacob it doesnt really idle that lumpy, i was perfectly happy with how it idled... but rewiring the injectors did smooth it out VERY noticeably, and i'm glad i did it.

it does make sense, MS doesnt know what cylinder is firing at any given time, so half the time when you start it things will be timed correctly, and half the time they will not be.

This is the last time I am going to say this as I explained it earlier - the reason it runs better wired 1,4 and 2,3 is because you are more consistent with when you inject with respect to the actual part of the cycle the cylinder is in. You can actually work it out on paper.

There are many reasons for a poor idle and this is one of the things you can do to improve it. It's not the only thing obviously but it still helps.

As for the wasted cylinder talk - that's just being mixed up between injection and ignition. The amount of fuel injected is used for combustion, there is no wasted fuel like you'd have spark. On top of that you don't need to cool intake valves anyways.

I'm sure all those that have MS units are capable of tuning it for idle... understanding what's happening in the engine well that's a different story.

Lex's experiment has been tried and tested, he's just sharing his findings.

Everyone has their opinion of how to make a smoother ride, and just sharing information... if you haven't tried it, then don't shoot it down. Some people just like to try things outside the box/textbook.

                Happy tuning!

Since we are talking idle, I also found that increasing the timing to about 14-16 at idle helps as well as the motor produces more torque with that kind of timing. This depends on several factors like fuel octane, compression, etc etc ... but if you have a standalone try it and see how it works for you.

Well I didn't get to far today, it was to damn cold in my garage (I NEED a heater) I cleaned up some of my old ghetto wiring and got most of the harness routed.

If I applied myself there should be no reason why I shouldn't be able to get this done in 2 maybe 3 days.

But it's cold, I've got a cold and I'm laze this time of year. (well any time of year )

Hopefully by the time I'm done this thread will be a nice resource for all the people that are thinking about going with MS.

PS. I will have some progress pix up soon...I've been fighting off a bug so I haven't been doing much of anything.
