And no. it was the piston all along as the big problem that I am talking about here. I jsut work so much it took me that long to get the head off. I haven't really looked at it really close yet.

That rattle at startup is the HLA's inflating, unless you're real lucky and it's piston slap or rod knock that goes away (for now) once you get some oil pressure. That bad #4 piston is leanout from running too much boost on too-small injectors. The VJ23 will boost to 30 if everything else is going your way but you better upsize the injectors and fuel delivery and IC and exhaust and all that. If you run a standalone you can get rid of the airflow meter entirely and get rid of a big obstruction in the intake, as well as do realtime datalog and other good stuff to make your engine live longer.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

ok so if I put the 550's in there will it make a difference with the stock ecu? Seceond GTR pistons good enough or go with the weisco set. Although I am not a big fan of pulling the engine. I do it every day at work. Over and over again.

go with the wesico pistons, future proofing. well worth the money. I don't think I could ever have a job that's my hobby. it would ruin it for me (as it seems to have with you).
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I've got Weisco's in the rallycar and don't plan on worrying about 'em for a long time. Street car is putting down 320 ponies on stock GTR internals. It's a hand grenade. With the pin pulled out. But it's taken a lot of abuse over the last couple years and keeps coming back for more, compression numbers haven't changed, no blowby, no troubles at all. Sheeeeit this car's fun, best ride I've ever had by far....

So my next question to you would be what is NEEDED to get those numbers. If you could PM me what you have and possibly what you paid for it, would be much appreciated. Then at least I have a checklist to go by. There is no one around here that can help me, here in da stikz. LOL

There's a pretty complete build sheet on that cardomain site or the vbgallery thing in my sig...
go over that stuff and come back with more Q's if you got 'em. As far as what I paid for most of that stuff, I doubt it will apply to you. Some of it came with the cars, some of it I bought used, some new, and I bet prices will vary with location.
