thing is brass as well as any other metal does corrode over time... brass tarnishes....
Stainless steel does as well... i was thinking why not machine on a lathe some bushings made of stainless steel ... amybe a new set that will work with the pacesetter shortthrow shifter assembly. stick some real good grease on them and care not about the vibration.
The bronzeoil bushings are not brass (an alloy of copper and zinc) but are bronze (an alloy of copper and tin). Other metals are also sometimes added to create specific properties. Unlike brass, bronze does not tarnish and has an extremely high corrosion resistance (including salt water corrosion) over the long term, more so than most steels. Bronze provides an ideal bearing surface, one that is more than adequate for its use in the change control rod of the Protege transmission. Given its qualities, I fail to see how a nylon or nyloil bushing would provide any advantages over the bronze.
Measurements of the Corksport Bushings:
ID = 10 mm
OD = 12.75 mm
Flange dia. = 21 mm
Total length (one bushing) = 12.5 mm
Thickness of flange = 2 mm

how would I measure that precisely? A micro-meter? I could probably use one at school, but like you I would hate to remove the bushings
That's ok, goldstar gave me the measurements.

Very nice explanation. Thanks a lot for bringing your point of vue. I have the bronzoil bushings and I love 'em a lot! The main goal of trying to make 'em out of Nyloil is mainly to offer an alternative, like others said. And I get some kind of exitement just to try new stuff... ain't modding cars all about that? I live off trying new stuff for my cars.
So, I really think we can give it a shot. Nyloil is light, has a very low friction coefficent, it's probably cheaper than bronzoil and its very durable. Bronzoil has all of that too, except it's not light although I know it's NOT worth the debate because of their size and I'm sure Nyloil is cheaper. So I'm definitly giving it a shot. Plus diversity is not a bad thing.
Thanks a lot for the measurments!
So who's in for a set if they work out good?? My friend just accepted to make a few sets.
a newbie question.... after i make a post 1 day later the edit button is gone... how do i go back and re-edit my posts after this. i would gladly go back and add to the list. help me out
