          screw hating magazines.
as for that ka comment above, i here they can handle like 400 on sotck bottom end. thats why my brothewr went witha ka24 instead of a sr20 for his 5and Dime project 4 door. Man these magazines need to start gettitng back to the hobby aspect fo it. the true moidding a car. who cares what you have ford, honda, toyota, as long as you love your car and do what you want with it. let praise them.

my friend jokes about his KA-T... sure, he could have bought an SR20 for some rediculous amount of money, but the KA has "a beautiful thing called torque"

im not hating on the ka or anyonther car in this post by my statements earlier. im hating on turbo mag for not being open to the idea of difference. any of you guys watch hotrod tv on spike. remember when they riced out that civic. oh it was soooo fast! they spent way to much on that car when they could have done all the mods they did and purchaed an escort fro the same price as the purchase price of that gay ass d-series teal pos.

the ka may make torque but you still need hp to get you down the track. that is what is so nice about the bp. its a level playing field. hp and torque climb up so equally as you modify it.

Ok..they have a forum over there @ the TURBO MAG website im gonna go start a thread there...and lets all bash this article...

I take some offense to this comment because the BP does not get as much respect as it should. And since we are pretty much "the 1st gen BP authority"..lol....we should stand up against it.....anyone with me?...

if I may interject, hondas are fantastic cars as well.
plus they have a more developed aftermarket, in many ways at least.
for road racing it's probably a cheaper proposition to race a honda, unless you're talking about spec miata or something. availability of replacement parts goes a LOOOONG way towards making hondas racing friendly.

Stick to your escort, much better platform besides aftermarket support. Might wanna get rid of that cute turbo and invest in something with better flow characteristics.
Stock bottom ended kas hold up to 300 hp. daily. on normal basis.
Built kas - well, the record hp for a privately owned US 240sx still belongs to the ka engine (over sr or ca). If you have failed at tuning ka or sr (if you have even tried that) or any other engine for that matter, that doesnt yet mean its a ****ty engine - just means you are a bad 'tuner'.

as for the article. I agree completely. start with a better platform. Even with all the potential the escort has/could have, the lack of aftermarket parts will NEVER let you exploit it to the fullest. If you are not into "building as you go" but rather into building cars from the ground up with proper parts and not custom hack jobs, escort is not for you. I made that mistake and have already regretted it.

240sx would be a better choice (if you are into the lameass crap everyone seems to be enjoying so much lately) - great rwd platform, with now alot of aftermarket choices.

so would a civic with its double wishbone suspension (who said escort suspension was better?) and even more aftermarket parts then the 240sx.

if on the other hand all you want is a fart pipe, wheels, and an air intake - dont write to "TURBO" magazine. Escort is a good fun car to get around in. But its old. And if you want to build a performance machine - don't start with an engine that needs a rebuild, suspension that needs to be replaced, frame rust and general body 'tiredness', unless that car has something of real value to offer.
