Just thought I would point out that BP head bolts are not TTY bolts. I dont really know why everyone thinks that. If they were TTY bolts it would be easy to find them, in addition to other reasons.

Only reason why I assumed they were TTY, is because every repair manual says to replace, and I am unable to definitively find out otherwise. What makes you say they aren't TTY?

If your looking at a chilton or haynes manual then I wouldnt be surprised since not all of their info is always accurate. A few reasons I say they are not TTY.

1: My FSM doesnt say anything about replacement.
2: They cant be found anywhere but the dealer, and considering how long the BP has been around and how many people rebuild them, they should be easily obtainable.
3: And the biggest reason of all- the torque spec: If the spec is only given as a torque value regardless of how many steps its a standard head bolt. If the spec calls for a torque value + an angle then they are TTY bolts. Since the bolts have to stretch a certain amount to work correctly they have to use an angle value. If you only used a torque spec for them, some would be correct, some not enough or some too much due to the bolt/thread friction giving a false sense of being tight. Hope that makes sense.

Well my Chilton, Haynes, 1993 and 1996 Ford FSM all explicitly state not to reuse the hardware. I did find it odd that the installation only involved a torque spec. The instructions for all the other engines I have done did involve a torque spec and angle. Another thing I noticed is that the FSM specs the torque at 60 ft lbs and the ARP's I bought called for 80 ft lbs. I figured worst case scenario is I would end up with expensive ARP's. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you were right 300zxrb26dett

The ARP studs will achieve the same thing as a TTY bolt, which is even clamping loads and they are reusable.

Here is more proof for you and others: Fel-Pro says "bolt replacement recommended" and then they do not even have the bolts available at all.

If you switch the search to 1.9L which I know for sure are TTY bolts it says "bolt replacement required" and their head gasket kits include new bolts and they can be purchased as a set by themselves under a different part number. The 1.9L also has a torque spec of 40ft lbs, 90 degrees and 90 degrees IIRC.
