hey what did you find out about the shifter linkage? did you need the whole shifter assembly or did you just need that one rod?

Well I just swapped the entire unit. The Protege's shifter was different, and the actuall shifter(where the knob screws too) was taller. It fixed my linkage problems and is better than ever. I got the welder I ordered a few days ago, and welded the carrier bearing to the block. Drove it today several times with the G-series and she is awesome. No more grinds, and disapearing gears. The pilot bearing was installed incorrectly in the clutch replacement before I bout the mx-3(in the f-series) it's toast I opened it up. Anyway I think the whole linkage needs to be swapped as both pieces were different in a measurement/bend comparison.

Hopefully others can learn a little for this.

for a MX-3 1.6 sohc swapping g-series from protege or escort GT with 1.8 dohc you need the 3 mounts for the trans(not sure if all are needed but I used them all and worked great), axels(passenger side carrier bearing needs to be modified it won't bolt up it's off just a bit, can drill it out and bolt or... like I did weld it to the block with several spot welds) , you need Clutch kit for the vehicle your g-series came from, the flywheel, and the transmission, you also need the shifter linkages, and depending on years you get the trans from some of them have different spedometer/trans filling areas so check this out before hand.

      Thanks everyone for your help.
