wonder how worth it it would be to do this swap. I might be picking one up for cheap and was considering doing the swap into that since my 94 is running just fine and has such low mileage94 Protege DX... A work in progress.

You swap the BPT mount for the B6T/B6D one. I don't think you even need to notch the mounting holes. Intake and i/c plumbing, exhaust downpipe. Use the B6T ECU and sensors, 4-wire automatic Protege TPS. Move the solenoids on the firewall so they don't interfere with the manifold... My buddy Todd (TAS) has done it twice now.
AWD is tougher b/c it seems like the framerail is closer to the pulleys.
