Or maybe people who don't believe in a divine maker just want to be their own god. The truth is that everything in this life is temporary. Everyone must deal with that truth even if they choose not to deal with it. I believe that there is something more than this life that is eternal. This belief is not so that I can get through another day of my life. It is so that I can live life to the fullest.

I normally don't get into these debates but I hate the old "faith in God is for the weak minded who can't deal with life" argument.

You couldn't have put it a better way!! Faith takes more than a simpleton to understand. I don't know if purewhitemp5 was against religion or for it. And I have yet to read a single post that critiques organised religion that has more substance than mere opinion. My quams stem from the fact that man corrupts what is pure, yet I still am an avid believer in the power of prayer and the need for a parish. Take out the stipulations and stagnations of the structure required for worship, and what you have are people wanting to communicate withone another, share their woes and worries, and ultimately, celebrate the goodness of life. Those that are so animate about disagreeing with religion on the basis of the inability to prove what is infinite by finite science are just as asinine as those pundits who are so sure they are right about what can never be proved, only believed. In the end, and belive me we will ALL have an end, even the faithless become the faithful.

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

                      Nope, I haven't.

I know God still loves me...I left a note on this person's car at my highschool a few years back because they parked in my spot, and they wrote "God still loves you" on the back and put it on my windshield.

About christianity not being "really" a peaceful religion because of the Crusades, etc. Most of these people were not really christians. They were born into christian families and, therefore, called themselves christians. Being born of christian parents doesn't make you a christian. True christians have had an awakening. It's sometimes called being "born again" as I'm sure you've all heard the term. They have had a spiritual transformation and not some schmuck conversion like going from a Democrat to an Independent. Mazkid isn't just jewish because his birth-mom is jewish, as their religion goes. If here were adopted by jewish parents, he would consider himself jewish just the same. That's even if his biological parents would have been muslims. People who kill using God's name but are really killing for their own personal gain are just so-called christians. Don't forget that.

Just some quick thoughts as I'm reading through your list:
10 - someone's gotta be right and someone's gotta be wrong

9 - I personally feel dehumanized when people suggest that humans evolved by accident. God can make people out of whatever he wants.

8 - I've never laughed at anyone else’s because of their religion and one Triune God is not polytheistic tho the distinction is subtle to some.

7 - This is a tough one and I don't have all the answers. (but I never turn purple about anything)

6 - Again, I have never laughed at another person's religion

5 - Science is the study of God's creation, therefore the bible and science are not mutually excusive but complimentary. Any apparent contradiction between the two is either a misunderstanding of the scientific evidence or a misunderstanding of the biblical text.

4 - Christians don't claim to be to "tolerant" (see number 10 on your list) and it is loving to try to correct those whom you believe to be in error. The only people that go to hell are those who reject God's free gift of salvation in Christ.

3 - The bible has the highest authority for Christians. All spiritual utterances must be examined in the light of scripture before taken as authentic.

2 - God has answered all my prayers, and I don't use answered prayers as evidence of God's existence.

1 - I have a masters degree in Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and I can translate the bible from the original ancient Hebrew and Greek.
