Mazda Robinson is a huge Mazda dealership, but My home town, Klagenfurt is the Home of Mazda Austria, the central place for Mazda dealerships & parts in whole country plus parts of Italy and Slovenia. It happens that the rows on traffic lights are Mazda only. Somthing that makes me happy around here.

My particular Protege has been bought in Zagreb, Croatia in 1991.

A shipment of ca. 20 Proteges and 20 US-Spec 323 hatchbacks has been sold back then and as my dad wanted the 323 sedan, he went for the US-spec protege. I got it in 1999 when my dad got another car. It never disapponited us in the whole of 14 years and went with us on many trips, over germany to switzerland and italy, etc etc. Unfortunately it almost completely rusted away in the austrian "chicago-ish" winters full of snow and salty roads and needed a $$$ repair last fall. it is alive and well again, but it is only a matter of time when the rust comes back again. I still try to keep its original look with no mods.

Well, I can´t say I have seen a lot of proteges, but i am quite sure I know where some of them went back then:

                  - I saw plenty of them in the time it was bought. both proteges & 323 hatchbacks.

                  - around 1993, on a parking lot in Klagenfurt I saw the very same blue protege as mine, with Ljubljana license plates.

                  - Around 1996-97 i remember seeing a red protege with black bumpers (basically the same livery as yours, but us-spec bumpers) and a "323" emblem instead of Protege, which made me wonder about that model. Didn´t see anything like that since then.

                  - In 1999 I saw s dark grey Protege DX with Karlovac laicense plates,

                  - In april 2004 I saw a red Protege DX with Rijeka license plates near Opatija.

                  - Last summer in Zagreb I spotted the same blue Protege DX in a rather poor exterior condition driven by a young girl.

                  - Last october on my last Zagreb visit, I saw two US-spec 323 hatchbacks, one in white one i light blue metallic and also spotted a red 323 hatch on the Ljubljana roads last winter.

Funny fact: Here in klagenfurt i used to see a BA generation Protege with canadian specs in gold, which looked quite cool. Some guest teacher imported it from there to Austria.

I bet i´ll be seeing some more of them in future, knowing that they are relatively reliable. Mine has 130k miles on it which is about 212000 Km and it is rollin.

BTW which color was the LX? It´s a Pity my dad didn´t know nothing about them back then, but then the austrian Mazda mechanics were stunned when they drove the protege realizing in europe the same engine was only used on european 323F models. The car is registered as a 1.6liter 85 HP euro spec 323 sedan & remained like this until today.

Yes it did. It was the same yellow that the put on the other escorts and the festiva. My friend used to drive one and his dad bought it new from the dealer.
