Well yesterday I swapped the GTX trans into the 4wd but Im having a problem with this electric diff lock system. The US trans has a electric motor to change the locking, while the GTX trans has some what of the same shaft comming out of the trans. Do I need some sort of device on this shaft for the GTX trans? Cause if I do need it the trans didnt come with it.

I need help from our 4wd masters on this club cause this is only the 2nd time for me to do trans swap on this car.

Here's some picts to help thing out. The US trans is the one covered in grease.

I guess nothing goes on that area of the GTX trans. I was looking at ebay for gtx motors and I see that there isnt anything on the shaft. Im still going to do more research.

yeah nothing goes there. If you want to lock the diff in you have to pull out that rod. If you felt like pulling both tranny's apart you could have put the electric diff lock motor on the GTX tranny but the only time you really need to lock the diff is if you plan on running it on a FWD dyno with the drive shaft unhooked. The GTX tranny has a viscous center diff where the usdm one has an open diff.
                That should help,

                  Thanks Jason!

That info helped me out alot!
Does the trans have to take a lsd fluid or additive? I was just going to run royal purple or something like that.

royal purple, redline mtl, any of that'll do just fine.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

Thats the diff lock shaft as everyone else said.. You don't need it with the GTX trans, unless you do the rod swap on the trans.. I have been running mine for 6 mos now with out it...

Nice what fluid are you running in your GTAE trans?
And do you have any parts for sale?

And thanks to everyone who responded to my question. Remember Im still a newbie when it comes to the 4wd cars.

When I ever get around to GTR swapping my hubs and knuckles, I will have some fan blade escort gt wheel to get rid of, no tires attached. Maybe we can do some trading up when the time comes .

quick question is what kind of clutch do you plan on running? Some one said it before but the 4wd doesn't like the puck clutch. I have a dual friction disc in my car and if I try to slip the clutch in launching it chatters like an SOB.

Yea, its the one Justin. It sucked selling it too. But I realized that if I kept it I would have 2 unfinished project cars. Now I just concentrate on the escort.
