I guess, might as well give it a try, see how it goes. I'm guessing the car isn't going to see that much dirt time, like you said. (unlike my Celica) If it does become a problem, I dreamed up a nice little water-to-air intercooler set-up that would be great for that car. The nice thing would be packaging, much easier to run water lines to the nose of the car then it is to run inlet air lines. (much smaller and flexible)

I'd actually be interested in that setup for my car (seeing how I just sold my intercooler setup!)---my car will end up in the back of another car/tire wall etc...and I'm more worried about getting knocked out of an endurance event than Chuck not finishing a recce...

On another note, when we welded up the lower IC mounts, the weld pulled the drivers mount down a 1/4" so the IC looks slightly crooked (not noticeable from the front, but still bugging me). I figured I'd just put a floorjack on that side and "bend" it up, afterall it's only 1" tubing and sheet metal. I'm always amazed at how strong stuff is when it's welded properly/designed overkill!

We lifted the front wheels off the ground with just the one side---maybe I"ll tie the skidplate mount into it!!!

haha awesome! now thats now you mount an IC, now you have a couple extra lifting points

hey are you going to custom fab your intercooler pipes up? i LOVE seeing people cut/weld their own piping lol, so much fun! take pics!!!! or feel free to make me a turbo to IC pipe haha

I'd actually like to see the lower IC mounts.. is it just tubing welded to the core support?

also, is the Air Conditioning still installed and functional??

With mounts that stout, he should be fine with tapping the odd burm... Or, I'll just have to drive him around in the dirt, so he can take notes!!! :-)

It is just tubing to a cup that the IC sits on---it's thicker wall tubing, but I was suprised at it's strength. AC still works---power steering line had to be moved back a bit...

I wish my IC had nice threaded mounting bosses on it. it's just got one kinda lame one on each side. I'm gonna have to either get the aluminum kit for my welder, or have a buddy do it for me.

Keeping the AC functional with the install of a turbo = Win!!

Man this is the hardest IC setup I've had to do on a BG---took me all afternoon, the Protege radiator hose is in the way as well as the exhaust. Had to go a lot lower than I wanted and going to have to wrap the exhaust/shield the heat away from the piping/coupler...pain!!!

Incidently, does anyone have a stock IC and piping from a BPT---going to need one for my car. I have the the pieces that bolt to the motor, looking for the pipe to intercooler coupler, the intercooler itself, and then everything back to the throttle body---Thanks!

how well is that going to clear the skidplate?

                      Comment

It'll be tight---everything is super tight---1/2" to exhaust and less to radiator hose---we cut lips of the core support/body to get it to fit tight. It's above the the front crossmember, but just barely. The skidplate will need a frame/support out in front of the core support where the break will turn up towards the bumper. It's a recce car---not a full race car, I'm thinking I'd take Jrally's advice if he decides to race it and move the intercooler up under the hood...I don't think he plans on racing it, maybe a rallycross and mostly trackdays where it'll have more than adequate clearance---probably be OK for the Ice racing events you do as well...

You did a very good job installing the 4wd system, on the other hand the IC piping, so so...

I appreciate very much the amount of pictures you have posted and that they are high resolution, nothing worst than cell phone ones.
