1992 Ultra Blue Metallic EGT - The 'scort with no name - crap>reliable daily>rallycross prep>stage rally
Featured in Rally Gearbox Magazine 3/1/11
"There's a hierarchy of insanity in motor sports. Normal people think all racers are crazy. Folks who race sedans think people in open-wheel cars are nuts. People who race cars of any kind think motorcycle racers are absolutely off theirs meds. But there's one group that everyone agrees is made up of the most extreme, the most daring, and absolutely craziest people in racing - rally racers."

I'm diggin' this! Looks just like my blue 4WD, except my car's only peeling on the roof and one fender.

So, what special parts are you going to be fabbing up for this one? What sort of underbody protection are you talking about? I

Probably build a front skidplate and some tiebar style mount to lock everything together. Fuel tank protection/wiring loom/fuel/brake line protection as well. Maybe some tubular arms with rodends---probably be ok for the recce/practice car. I'll have the car for a month or two---if you need anything i can build it on the car and send it.

Here's a bit more progress---it's starting to echo inside...

'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

I'd be down for the front tiebar/skidplate mount. I am assuming that it would be similar to the 4pt bars you made for the 2wd cars, right? And maybe you could design a rear one as well, for the rear mounting points of the fuel tank protection...
                          Current:
                          68 Torino GT Fastback
                          86 MR2
                          91 F150
                          94 Escort Wagon BP swap
                          99 Escort Wagon BP swap
                          00 Miata LS
                          08 Arrow AX8
                          14 Mazda5

Yeah exactly---something like a 4 point brace with tabs for the skidplate---I'll keep you posted on this thread when I get to that point---I'd guess it'll be in a few weeks. Not sure on the rear yet, haven't actually racked the car up so if you have any idea's feel free.

Do you think you could post up a pick while you have it apart? The tie rod ends on my 4wd look to be at a funky angle to the spindle and I'd like to see if they're all like that.

I'll delete this post ASAP so your work log doesn't get all funkied up.
                              Thanks.

Absolutely---probably have the car up on the rack early next week---if there's a particular angle you need just let me know---I can shoot one today on the ground if that'll help. No need to delete the post---thanks though!

Here's the JDM spec bumper we're going to run----it's super light--(you can pick it up with one finger) cost a grip from Corksport, but it has a perfectly flat lip at the bottom and it's urethane so it's good for rally---no cracks!
