for w/e stoopid reason, i thought this generation escort/protege and the later miata generation (NB) had this BP... don't ask...

that, and well, their website said it fit the EGT and protege... But, after i checked again.. there's an error on the site. it says that with everything......

Spiffy piece of metal arrived from Flyin Miata, and it did just what it's supposed to. helped me take the crank bolt off... Success!!! -ish

Whats the proper way to remove the pulley boss? Just take a pry bar to it? Tapped it a bit on the sides, it wiggles.. but doesn't come out. Same with the key.. how the heck does it come out?

And on another note... IS there a difference between these two crank pulleys? yes, they're both large nose, but other than the outer lip weirdness...

Boomdawgy!!! Figured it out. Put 2 pulley bolts back in, opposite side, and walked it off. YAY!!! All the crank crap is off of the old motor. I am now going to try and source a pulley boss, that way i have a complete set for each motor..

lathe down that pulley plate & shave a little weight off the end.... you don't need the huge lip around the belt zone- it does nothing. keep the 4 mounting bolt holes & rock out

I'm going to be dropping in some adjustable cam gears soon. And also the exhaust cam swap. I'm looking around and trying to find a good source for tcam installs, but not entirely sure. Most things I find are in regards to big blocks.

It was mentioned before to lube the cams properly before we get er done. Anyone have recommendations on this process? Should i be replacing the cam seals at the same time (again) even though the engine was just built (but not having the e-cam dropped it)??

While we're at it.. How would i want to go about getting the adjustable gears set for their initial install prior to tune?

As far as cam seals go, i say replace whenever you mess with them. Better safe than sorry. I hate those seals, always leaking.

Curious what brand gears did you get? I've been looking at the Fidanza, just not sure i want to spend the 250 on them. And i'm not sure if thats PER or not.

if you have to replace ANY important seals/ cam/ crank(either end) I only recommend ALTROMĀ® brand seals- you can buy them from napa. well worth the money & they will seal where others can't

Picked up the 2 ALTROM seals at NAPA.. they said i only needed one??? i got two just incase.

Do i just lube the came with oil all over the place, lube the seal, place cam down, install seal, and tighten the cam down to torque spec?

run some vaseline along the inner lip of the cam seal & on the cam end itself lightly slide the seal onto the cam. put a light coat of permatex ultra black around the outer edge of the seal & the corresponding surface of the seal surface. be cautious not to block the oil hole in the bottom journal mount (inspect it closely & you'll see what i mean) if you block the hole with RTV it will wind up leaking out of the cam regardless of what you do :/ when you install the RTV'ed seal DO NOT tighten the journal cap over it. lightly snug it - you can snug the other journal caps in accordance to keep everything lined up properly.
after about 15-30minutes you can come back & check the cure of the RTV - if its fairly solidified on the outer skin you should be able to safely tighten the journal cap without forcing the seal to try and back out of place.

                    best of luck!

                      I'm quickly losing motivation again.

I've officially taken over the ownership of a '98 Forester S automatic with 280k on it that is quite freaking reliable. motor is in AMAZING condition. trans is good. I'll be doing a minor lift to it and do some overlanding.

The EGT.. i'm just so 'meh' about it anymore. sure, it would be swell if it were done, but now.. i almost just don't care anymore. it's kind of sad.. No time or motivation to finish the job (again...) taking up space...

So.. anyone wanna buy it? The car, 3 motors (1 rebuilt, 1 out of a running car, 1 dead) and two trannies (1 GREAT condition, 1 w/o 5th), a ****ton of extras, and everything i've got for it.
