Red Protege in question was a 91 that my wife bought new..Car burnt in 1998 , had I known I'd again be a 1st gen mazda owner in 2004 I would have stripped the car of all worthwhile parts. Fire was contained in the engine bay. ( My Dad got a new Mazda 3 and gave me his almost pristine 1990 323 in the process)

my Protege didn't have a working horn for the last 2 years of it's life.

Not to mention you had to fiddle with the battery cable(s) later in it's life .






Mine, being a stock 3rd gen, well.........there's really nothing intersting yet other than I love it.

my pro started off in Greenwood SC with 15miles on the odo. it first saw redline @ ~ 600 miles.

it still has the original alternator, distributor, starter, power steering pump (has anyone EVER had trouble with this?), and fuel pump. the thermostat was the only engine part replaced under warranty - that replacement is still on the car.

I have repainted my car from bumper to bumper 3 times in 4 years.

Most of the parts on my car are from another car.

I stupidly made a copy of my rear bumper and the guy painted it almost the same color as mine. The rest of the bodykit is unique in the world (front bumper is flushed)

Yesterday I had no doors, trunk, hood, bumpers lights or sideskirts on my car.

I have not had a decent parking brake for longer than a 2 month period as long as I've owned the car.

I could'nt duplicate the color of my paint if I tried (which really sucks).

I have no idea how much mileage my car has because I've swapped the instrument cluster too many times.

The original owner of the car got A/C and a sunroof, but did'nt feel like spending the extra bucks for the clock.

My car goes through MAFs like J-Lo goes through fiancées.

im going to see ifi can afford a turbo this summer because they kick so much ass.

i had to remove a drain plug in the trunk the other day... there was so much rain here that the puddles i drove through splashed water over the roof of the car. and there was a tornado that touched down near here. did i mention ITS SPOKANE!?!?!?!?! wtf. anyway...

in 2 1\2 years, this is my third car, and has been for a year and a half
i bought it for $2500 from the second ever owner, who only drove it on trips to whistler.
he was selling it for $3500
he kept insanely good records on the car, and i have a folder about an inch thick of all the stuff replaced(pretty much all the expensive stuff... all calipers, all rotors, new axles, a couples new struts, etc.) and oil changes and whatnot.
it had an all metal Performance Radiator when i got it.
but yesterday i had to replace it... with a plastic tank aluminum core model.
(they don't make the all metal ones anymore i guess... oh well, like, 10 less pounds (at least) and 200 less dollars...)

Fac- Proteges have THE hardest alternators to change of any other car EVER.

I've changed mine. It was hard, but not as hard as in my friends Saturn. Car has to be on a hoist, there is ZERO access from the top. I looked at it, and said, "no chance, I'm not touching that thing"
