Swap Begins: Escort GT -> Escort GTX

    Well, coming home tonight, I hear this metallic object hit what felt like my exhaust pipe .... and all of a suddent this "fluttering" noise comes from the turbo.

    Even at idle ... it's like a fan hitting papers. I stopped the car and left it there for the night. I don't know what's wrong as it was nightime and couldnt look - I will come back tomorrow.

    The car was running well before, with EGTs under 800 when this happenned

    Is it possible to have broken off a fin off the turbo on the exhaust side? After working on this project for so long, I want a break - if the turbo is gone, I would be heart and bank broken

      ok, found out I lost a bolt (one of 4) off the exhaust housing - how that happenned I dunno. Now it's time to go look for a bolt on the road - ummm fun times

          put lock washers and Loctight on them and they will never come out....

            found another bolt that fits on the housing perfectly (as the one on the street is history) and found that a second bolt on that housing was finger tight. I never touched the housing and now I realize I should have checked things.

            Either way, noise is gone and problem is solved

              good to hear you got it working. got any problem when you put your light on?? i heard that someone had that problem with the canada egt.

                They have that problem because they removed the resistor box that is used for the daytime running lights and is located on the passenger side strut tower

                    congrats on teh easy fix with not too many headaches....
                    The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

                      yeah, that should not be removed - IT IS NOT an injector resistor box

                        my swap goes down tommarow....the engine is together....im just waiting for the oil pump from Ryan(BPT323) to show up b4 it gets started....wednes day it gets towed out to the exhaust shop so i have to get it swaped tommwro :\

                            i have swaped the bp in and out of my car so many times i can pull the engine change the clutch, front and rear main seals and install it all and have it running again in 6-8 hours... last time i had help and it only took us 5hours...

                              How many clicks more than stock setting did you move it to get it finally running where the plugs were a nice tanned color??

                                well driftscort ... the thing is that I have an rx7 vaf and I have been playing around with getting it right - I am not sure how many clicks it is exactly but I can look - do you also have an rx7 vaf?

                                With the stock GT ECU, I still run too rich at idle/part throttle if I want to be safe at full throttle up to redline. It is a bit of a compromise, but I would rather be safe for now - going to get her on the dyno soon and see how much I can back off the vaf because running too rich although it's safe - it is not optimal for economy OR performance.
