The sound does not go away - I ran it up and down the street - it does not even quiet down - it's a constant ticking and it seems to be coming from the injectors -

Is the CEL routine also outlined in the mazda shop manual ?

Perhaps it is normal for the GTX injectors to be loud - can anyone back this up? Pat?

The gtx has a resistor box? No the gtx injectors are not that loud. Get a sound/video clip of it if you can

no the gtx injectors aren't loud at all, they sound the same.

The ticking didn't go away for me until the following day. and mine was ticking LOUD

so you said you didn't re-wire anything? I'm confused? How did you eliminate the resistor box exactly?

I did rewire to eliminate the resistor box, I didn't wire any of the interior harness - that's what I meant.

Any idea what the ticking is all about? Is it something to worry about? I have a video clip of when charles first started his GTX up and it is ticking the same - Im not as worried now that I've seen it happen on other motors - but what is causing it?

Okay - took it for another short spin and there are more problems.

First of all, once the car sees some boost, it bogs down immediately. It is also very hard to start and often it does not even start. (Here I am suspecting the airflow meter. I have an RX7 one that I bought over ebay)

After the short "boosted" run, I noticed some smoke coming off the exhaust side of the turbo in the engine bay. It didn't smell like something was burning and wasn't blue ... I don't know what it is.

I thought that "bogging" was a fuel related issue.

good luck on getting her up and running right.

When i got my timing retarded, my plugs were gapped wrong and they were getting blown out. Try re-gapping them to .028. To pull CEL from the BP ecu, you jump the TEN and GND ports in the dig. port with a paper clip or a wire. Then put the key in the ON position (do not start the car, just the on position) then watch the CEL and count the blinks. A few seconds pause means its another number next to the first one, or the next error that it will show you. Good luck solving your problems.

Well guys, I really **** the bed on this one ... I jumped the wrong pin (pin next to TEN) on the diagnosis connector. Some smoke from the connector followed along with the CEL turning off. Now the CEL won't turn on at all at any time ... all the other dash lights turn on. At this point I am suspecting that I fried the ECU - I don't know if there is a way to reset it in case I surpassed a current limit.

To reset the ECU, take off the neg. batter cable, and press the breaks for a few mins. All the current left in the car is taken out through the tail lights. I hope you didnt fry it. if you did, I have one for ya. Now that I think of it, after i got my DP welded by the shop, my car made this loud as clicking from the bottom of the motor. It went away after some time, they shop said it sounded like something arching from a bad connection or somthing.

Hey elscotto, I will try resetting it later today and if nothing is alive - I will hit you up on the ECU - especially since yours does not have the daytime running lights and low impedence injectors issue

Sounds good, hope it works out. If you do end up buying the ECU, I would not be able to get it out till end of this week as i am finishing with school and need to move back home. Let me know, or send a PM.

Darn redfox, how would do you get a free BP ECU from a junkyard? I am afraid to go there since I know they will charge me an arm and a leg. Last time I checked, an RX7 VAF was around $100

It looks like I really do need the ECU though and soon ... not going anywhere without it - redfox is there a chance for you to get your hands on it once again?
