Formal education only goes so far.

i'm going to have to whole heartedly agree with that one. i have zero formal education, or any documented shop experience when it comes to car audio, yet i've won my share of 1st place trophies, was knowledgeable enough to get certified as an iasca judge, and have helped probably thousands of people with audio questions through the 5 forums i visit regularly. do i know everything about it? nope. but do most installers? hell no. there is only one guy in all of FL that i would let work on my car over myself, but he's a bit pricey since he won't take an install for less than $30k and he has never gone to an installers school, yet his shop is one of the best in the nation.
