My FE3 progress thread

    jesse- so far i can't get it to run for ****. I need good wire leads (none available in the states to my knowledge) & an optical FE3 disty.

    So far today i checked the TPS specs via multimeter- & it checked out okay.
    Moved on to the VAF- just replaced the guts in it entirely--- still no change
    I can't get it to stop misfiring for the life of me

      I know it seems like it's a beginners thing to read about misfiring, but who knows. Maybe you might not have thought of checking something.
      My family has lots of bg's!

        We used universal leads on bens car once. Just measure the lengths you need. I'd defintaly do a set of plugs, who knows how long those ones have been in there. Did the BP optical guts swap over into the FE casing?

            also don't forget to see if you're having any air leaks at the fuel rail, will cause a crazy idle.. I know you'll figure out the problem, it's just a matter of time.

            How is the engine ground system btw?

              Are you sure its missfiring?? From your videos I didn't hear any signs of a missfire... I just heard it surging at idle... You might need to adjust your base idle and make sure your TPS idle position is set right...

                yes im sure its misfiring. im going to try different injectors this next week. & also a different ECU (if i can get my hands on one)

                  I know it sounds dumb but are the fuel lines backwards? it will cause it to run and drive (kind of) but will miss fire like a B---- under load. the other thing I would check is the plugs, I would get a colder set for sure.

                    there is no need to jump to a colder plug. I've tried 2 brand new sets of plugs FYI
                    fuel feed/return are properly hooked up.

                            yep, never know how old it is.

                            Have you done any sensor probing ryan to see what's going on?

                            I wish I knew of an easy way to make up a smoke machine so you can check for vac leaks

                              just look on youtube, there are plenty of shade tree make shift smoke machines out there... some made for less than $40. The decent ones I have seen (homemade) use a glow plug and mineral oil heated to create smoke that is piped into the car's evap or intake system.
                              The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

                                Yeah, my school has a home made one that uses a glow plug and mineral oil. Some students made it as a class project. It works pretty good.
