Ideally, I want to do this so that any normal non-car person would look under the hood and think that the engine was normally available in a Protege5...so yes, it'll have headers and an intake...but otherwise it'll all be factory bare aluminum.

My brother has like dozens of KL valve covers, intake manifolds, etc etc...I can always get a set powdercoated and put em on later.

Going to Chicago Thursday and Friday...and maybe Saturday. Next weekend I will be working on this thing hard-core and maybe, just maybe, get the swap in the car. I will still have to work on wiring, power steering lines, etc etc. But we shall see how far I get.

everything should be p&p shawn, its an odb2 system going into an odb2 car i've even read where p5 ppl have left most of the FS ecu & harness in tact to run specific things, while the KL ecu runs the engine and such.

I'm asking just because 4 cylinder tachs are calibrated to run with 4 cylinders. when you add a v6 to the situation the tach will read wrong.

The guy in Canada that started his KL P5 project when I got my car did this. I don't like the idea. I think I can run everything with the 626 ECU since it's newer and many of the accessories are similar to the FS's, where as he's using a KL-ZE and it's OBDI and all.

We will see. My friend swapped a J32(that's the '03 CL Type-S 6 speed 3.2L V6 engine/transmission) into his '00 Integra Type R(and we got the hood to close, just FYI. lol) and the tach is only slightly off.

That's one of those things that I'm not all that concerned about first-off. Getting the car running and vital stuff working is most important. Stuff like an accurate tach is down the list.

maybe you can swap a tach itself from a mazda 6 and then make a faceplate overlay to blend it in.

It would be from a 626...but like I said, that's a minor issue to be dealt with after I'm on the road grinning from ear to ear...ears full of the unmistakeable sound of a KL. lol

Any more progress as of late?

Actually, went up to the dealership today with my brother to him him with his GF's Accord and he helped me get the flywheel/clutch/transmission/intermediate shaft/etc on the engine... so now, in theory, the engine is ready to go into the car. That'll prolly be the weekend after next. My brother is busy tomorrow and out of town next weekend and I want his assistance in this.

                        Soon...

I know!! I'm so confused as to why I lack the motivation to get this done ASAP... I mean whenever I buy a new car I get things done pretty fast. I think it's just working full time and all that. :/ I'll be bummed if it gets to the 2 year mark and it's not on the road. lol

And it definitely needs to be done by the next time you head down.

... but only the lower 2 mounts are in. Nothing else connected.

My dealership is taking one of my dad's bays and turning it into a place to take pics of our pre-owned cars. Why, I don't know. But that was the bay where my parts were. lol So after boxing everything up and putting it in my "storage office"(where I keep my hardtop), I had to go somewhere with the engine/transmission. Into the Protege5 seemed like the best idea. :D

Progress is progress. I'm a bit surprised how well the KL fits in there. I'm looking forward to getting this done more and more.
