Thats nothing compared to my problem.... I broke 2 craftsmen breaker bars, 3 snap on bars, and then my grandpa went up in his attic to get the biggest thing we have, a 1" drive super heavy duty impact (here's a link of the one we bought: http://www.brandsplace.com/0384-cpt5000.html ) and we used this after heating the axle nut. After 1 hour of heating and hammering, we gave up...... We had to take the axle apart to get the motor out..... The outer part of the axle stayed in the hub, lol!

No escort here. The green car is a 92 integra gsr. I usually use anti-seise on every bolt/nut I can so things come off easy. Whoever worked on this before definitely did not.

Welcome! Sounds like you guys need to buy an IR 1/2" impact gun! My mid-range IR does axle nuts just fine.

Me19875-Well in my case would your Ingersoll have knocked out my 20yr old axle nuts? Bearing in mind that the car had Rotas on it for 6 years with no center caps..

Dam! That's got enough torque to turn the whole car!
I've never had a problem with the nut, and I've just got a super cheap 1/2" impact. But I've knocked the bearings apart trying to get the shaft out, I guess somebody never heard of anti-seize.

Whew it's been awhile. So for an update I got all the seals replaced, checked tolerances on everything and it's all in spec, compression was good. Got the motor back in and fired it up yesterday. It started good, a little noisy but I think it just needs to be run a bit. Hopefully I'll get the axles and suspension back together today so I can drive it. I've been pretty busy so this has gone slower than what I planned.

Yea I've spent a lot of time and money on it and have consistently been disappointed. Next step is to sell it. I've really grown fond of Mazdas, maybe I can replace it with Miata for the wife.

awesome update! I don't know how I overlooked this build. Keep up the good work.

Usually the hydraulic lifters are known to causes excessive noise, especially after sitting a while. Did you inspect them all before re-using them? If so, the noise will go away after about 15-20 minutes of idle til with fresh oil and filter.

Good point with the lifters. Right now I just need to get the axles in. I've tried for 4 hours and had to give up to go to work. I've never had any be this much of a pita.

My dad had a problem getting my passenger side axle in when we replaced it. He said he ended up taking off the c-clip and it slid right in with no problems.

I thought about doing that but then what will hold it in?

I haven't had any problems with the clip removed. The axle will be held in place by the transmission at one end and the hub at the other. They'll have to move quite a distance from eachother to let an axle just slip out, very unlikely in my mind.
