Got he head back together and got he valve spring retainers back in. I had to call my friend who's still in Puerto Rico. He said that he didn't use a valve spring compressor to get the retainers back in, He just used a sparkplug socket and put the retainers inside the spring top and put a 2x4 under valves and pressed down hard till they popped in. I tried it and it worked!
Have this saturday scheduled with my mechanic to do the install. Will take pics as we go. Well got started on the rebuild on Sunday. The teardown was easy, and swapping everything over from the the old head over to the new head was tedious! LOL! Everything was going real smooth, with no hold ups or problems.........

OK, we're havin an issue and need a little help! Well we have everything together and everything hooked up right(as far as I know).
Now the issue we have is that we can't get the engine to start. The car has enough spark, it's getting fuel to the cumbustion chamber, it's getting air, and all vaccume lines are hooked up, and it tries to start, but it won't start.
Any ideas?

check the timing marks, but it sounds like your valves arent closing or are bent,burnt? did you replace them or get them checked?.... does that tester allow you to plug in shop air? if so see where its leaking, intake or exhaust side.... you should be able to close each cylinder turning it over by hand....92 protege lx-

Timing marks are good. No I didn't replace the valves. My mechanic said that they looked ok. I know when reinstalling the valves on the exhaust side that there was 2 valve cylinder things where sticking, my V8 head friend said it wasn't a big deal and he took some 400 grit sand paper and sanded the hole just a little bit where the cylinder things rest inside the head. Help please!!!!!!!
Well it's not the valves! After tearing it all back down again, we looked better at the pistons and found that in cylinder 2 the piston is melted a little and there is a little blow by. Then we looked at cylinder 3 and again but even less than 2 but still a little mark on it.
Now I have a problem, My friend doesn't want to get into the build any deeper, and I'm not to sure on what to do on the bottom end now with no garage! Anybody close by Harrisburg ,Pa and has the knowledge of the lower end and can help me install new pistons or if the block is bad put a new block in???????
